Biblical Witness in American History

This event was hosted as part of Baylor in Washington's Robert P. George Initiative on Faith, Ethics, and Public Policy. 

At a time when bibles are gradually disappearing from hotel room drawers, and biblical symbols are under attack in our public spaces, citizens do well to remember the vital role the Bible has played in American history. From the movement for American independence to the abolition movement, from the women's suffrage movement to the civil rights movement, biblical witness has been indispensable. What is it about the Bible that inspires and facilitates social change? To what extent might a decline in biblical witness pose a threat to American cohesiveness and progress? This event was designed to reflect on these questions and to highlight the important role of biblical witness in the American pursuit of liberty and justice for all.

Part of Baylor University's Robert P. George Initiative on Faith, Ethics, and Public Policy, the event featured a panel of experts led in conversation by Professor George (McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence at Princeton University).
